Back at 'Worl Bon Bon' for afternoon tea. My cake is the one in
the background... layers of rich chocolate, sandwiched together with caramel and a tart strawberry coulis, topped with a whole fresh strawberry on a circle
of piped fresh cream, and accessorised with a brittle chocolate filigree
fan.
My friend's cake, in the foreground, had a vanilla custard filling,
underneath which was hidden an unexpected layer of mouth-pursing, beautifully
acidic raspberry sauce.
While the cakes at 'Worl Bon Bon' ALWAYS look great, and are
very artfully presented, the flavour is often disappointing, since it is
sometimes not on a par with the appearance of the cake itself.
On this
occasion, the tanginess of the berry coulis, in each case, was a welcome
surprise.
