'Swan Cake' - Custard and Cream Puff




"Swan Cake," a visual delight, made from choux pastry, custard and cream. This sweet, light concoction from 'Worl Bon Bon,'  a small cake and coffee shop in Goshono Town, Akita, is enough to earn 'pointes' with any ballerina. 

The custard filling was very creamy, and the pastry, freshly baked, had a light texture, without any of the chewiness that results from being out of the oven for too long. The flavour would have been enhanced by using fresh cream, rather than the aerosol variety, as in this one, but that would have required the staff to fill each one immediately before serving. In this popular, and busy little suburban cafe, they probably just don't have the time! 

On reflection, I think the swan needs eyes. Perhaps a tiny silver dragée on each side? But then, perhaps it would be a little harder to take the first bite!
